We test drove the Toyota Corolla Hybrid Fuel Economy. The model we drove was equipped with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Our model had a power output of 121hp @ 5,200rpm and 105lb-ft @ 3,600rpm.
Toyota Corolla Hybrid Highway Fuel Economy
We drove the Corolla Hybrid for approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) in order to test its highway fuel economy. In our highway fuel economy test, the Corolla achieved 3.6 liters per 100km or 65mpg. This means on every liter of fuel, you can get 27.6 kilometers of highway driving.
In this section, we take our total mileage done throughout our test, and calculate it against our fuel fill up quantity and cost. At the end of the test, we had driven a total of 449km (279 miles). We had a half tank of fuel left. We did 40% of our driving in the city and 60% on the highway.
We spent $18.57 (CAD) to fill up 19.1 liters of fuel at a fuel cost of $0.969/liter. If we were to fill up in Detroit, we would spend $9 (USD) to fill up 5 gallons of fuel at $1.80/gallon.
Toyota Corolla Hybrid Fuel Tank Capacity
The Corolla Hybrid has a fuel tank capacity of 43 liters or 11 gallons.
Distance Per Liter/Gallon
Kilometers Per Liter: The Corolla achieved 23.5km/L, meaning every liter of fuel gives 23.5 kilometers of driving.
Miles Per Gallon: The Corolla Hybrid achieved 55MPG, which means every gallon of fuel gives 55 miles of driving.
Liters Per 100 kilometers: The Corolla Hybrid achieves 4.2L/100km, which means it takes 4.2 liters to drive 100 kilometers.
Actual Fuel Range
Actual Fuel Range is calculated by taking the aforementioned Distance Per Liter (23.5km/L) and multiplying it by the fuel tank capacity (43 liters). On a full tank of fuel, based on our driving, you can expect 1,010km or 628 miles of driving.
Cost Per Kilometer
To calculate the Cost Per Kilometer, we will divide the total fuel cost against the total distance driven. Our calculations show that every kilometer in the Corolla Hybrid costs $0.04 (CAD) in Toronto and $0.03 (USD) in Detroit.
Cost of a Full Tank
To calculate the Cost of a Full Tank, we will multiply the local fuel price against the fuel tank capacity. Our calculations show it costs $41.67 (CAD) to fill up in Toronto, and $19.80 (USD) to fill up in Detroit, USA.
